KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the IUPUI softball team (16-31, 4-12) will travel west as they take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City (22-23, 10-5) this weekend (May 6-7), beginning with a doubleheader Friday set for 3 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday at noon.
The Jaguars wrapped up Summit League play this past weekend with a scheduled three-game series against Western Illinois, which was shortened to two games due to weather.
The team is led on the season by
Ali Mosier, who boasts a team-high .323 batting average with 10 homeruns and 22 runs batted in (RBIs). Mosier has elevated her play against Summit League competition, batting .415 in the 16 conference games this year, while recording a .508 on base percentage while slugging .849.
Taylor Chitwood ranks second on the team with a .314 average, knocking eight homeruns a team-high 36 RBIs.
Brooke Boetjer has reasserted herself as the ace of the pitching staff, recording a 2.99 earned run average (ERA) across 25 starts and 150 innings of work. She's posted 106 strikeouts to just 42 walks, while limiting opposing hitters to a .238 batting average against her.
UMKC most recently snapped a four-game losing streak by winning the nightcap of a doubleheader against Omaha Monday (May 2), doubling up the Mavericks, 10-5. This season, the Roos have gone 6-3 against Summit League teams, with wins coming against Omaha, Western Illinois, South Dakota, and South Dakota State. As a team, the Roos are hitting .291 while posting a 4.48 ERA. The Jaguars are hitting .258 as a team with a 4.03 ERA.
For IUPUI, the team will await its fate as it pertains to making the Summit League Tournament. If IPFW drops a single game in its three-game series at Western Illinois, the Jaguars will clinch the final spot. The Mastodons would have to sweep the Leathernecks to make the tournament.
