INDIANAPOLIS – After returning to winning form following a walk-off win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Wright State Wednesday (April 13), the IUPUI softball team (11-26, 0-8) will look to reverse their fortunes in Summit League play as the Jaguars will host IPFW (10-29, 1-8) in a doubleheader Saturday (April 16) at 12 p.m., followed by an 11 a.m. single game Sunday (April 17).
The victory Wednesday snapped what was a 10-game losing streak for IUPUI that started March 25, the opening weekend for Summit League play. During that stretch, the Jags had a game against Omaha cancelled due to weather, as well as a postponed non-conference game against Butler in which the Jags were leading 2-0 going into the fifth inning.
This season, the Jaguars are led by
Kaitlynn Moody and
Ali Mosier with batting averages of .333 (19-for-57) and .314 (38-for-121) respectively. Mosier has also clubbed a team-high 8 homeruns and added 26 runs, while
Taylor Chitwood leads the squad with 28 runs batted in (RBIs) and is tied with Mosier for a team-best 10 doubles. Senior pitcher
Brooke Boetjer leads the Jags' staff with a 3.55 earned run average (ERA) over 17 starts, amassing a 6-12 record over 108.1 innings of work. She's struck out a team-high 78 batters and opponents average just .263 against her.
The Mastodons are currently riding an eight-game losing streak, having most recently been swept in three-games by North Dakota State (April 9-10) in Fargo, North Dakota. Their lone Summit League victory came in the nightcap of a doubleheader against South Dakota (March 25), winning a tight battle, 3-2. Historically, IPFW holds the all-time record against IUPUI, going 22-15 in games dating back to 2002. Last season, the Jags went 3-1 against the Mastodons, outscoring IPFW 42-6 in those games.
Due to events transpiring throughout Indianapolis, the IUPUI staff would like to inform all fans planning to attend the Saturday games of impending road closures and parking difficulties. All of West New York Street, spanning from the White River Bridge to the intersection with Blackford Street, will be closed to traffic. In addition, University Boulevard will be closed from New York Street to Michigan Street. The surface parking lots across from the softball complex will be charging money for parking due to the Indy Eleven soccer game taking place. Alternatively, the parking garages at the corner of Barnhill Drive and Vermont Street will be offering free parking for Saturday only. Please follow the link to the Campus Map for a suggested guide to the softball fields.
