INDIANAPOLIS - The Jags begin their home Summit League schedule when they host North Dakota State over the weekend. IUPUI and the Bison will play a double header starting at noon on Saturday (Apr. 2) and finish up the series on Sunday (Apr. 3) with a game at 11 a.m.
IUPUI (10-18, 0-2 Summit)The Jags had their last game against Butler postponed at the top of the fifth inning with IUPUI up 2-0 over the Bulldogs.
Nickole Finch had seven strikeouts and only gave up three hits in her four innings pitched. Finch also worked out of a bases loaded no-outs jam in the fourth inning.
Maggie Good and
Sarah Lawrence both drove in runs for the Jags. The game will try to be finished at a later date.
Ali Mosier leads the team in home runs with five and has increased her average to .290.
Taylor Chitwood leads the team in average (.333) and RBI (21) and is tied with
Roni Patterson for second on the team in home runs with four. Patterson (.329),
Kaitlynn Moody (.325) and
Morgan Schlobohm (.311) are the other Jags hitting above .300 on the season.
In the circle,
Brooke Boetjer still leads the team in ERA at 3.26 but Moody, with her strong showing in Omaha, is right behind Boetjer at 3.35. Boetjer leads the team with six wins and 12 starts and has thrown complete games in seven of her 12 starts. Moody currently leads the team in opponent batting average with batters hitting .220 against the freshman.
North Dakota State (18-12, 0-0 Summit)The Bison are playing their first conference games this weekend and have had a strong non-conference schedule so far, including a win versus #2 Alabama. North Dakota State is the team to beat in the Summit League, having been voted the preseason conference favorite by the coaches. The Bison have won seven of the last eight conference tournaments and have finished as regular season conference champions the last four years.
Offensively, the Bison are led by Logan Moreland who is batting .360. Moreland is also a terror on the base paths with a perfect stolen base record (13-13). Four other Bison are batting over .300 for a ball club that is batting .291 as a team. Cheyenne Garcia leads the team with 22 RBI and seven other North Dakota State batters have recorded double-digit RBIs.Â
Jacquelyn Sertic is the clear leader in the circle for the Bison. Sertic has a 13-5 record and a 2.04 ERA in 123.2 innings pitched. Sertic has made 16 starts for NDSU and has thrown a complete game 14 times. Sertic also leads the pitching staff with 97 strikeouts. Behind Sertic is Kaitlyn Leddy with a 4-7 record and 4.96 ERA.Â
