Senior women's basketball standout Akilah Sims has been named IUPUI's Female Athlete of the Month for December 2015. The Fort Wayne-native helped the Jaguars to a 5-3 record during the month while topping the team in scoring, rebounds and minutes played. 

Sims averaged a team-high 13.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 53 percent from the field in a month that included wins over Belmont, Indiana State and SIUE. She recorded three double-doubles including 18 points and 13 boards in the victory over Belmont (Dec. 18) and had 16 points and 10 caroms at North Texas (Dec. 5). She scored 22 points in an emphatic win at SIUE on Dec. 11, hitting 10-of-15 shots, while also collecting eight boards and three blocked shots. 

Sims scored in double-digits in five of the seven games in which she appeared and had 15 points in a near road upset at Louisville on Dec. 13.
