IUPUI diver Chen Ni has been chosen as the IUPUI Student-Athlete of the Month for February. Ni swept both diving competitions at The Summit League Championships to take home Diver of the Year honors in the conference.
Ni, arguably the conference's most accomplished newcomer at the championships, set Summit League Championship records on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards en route to Diver of the Year honors. On the 1-meter board, Ni finished with a score of 265.85 to break the old conference record and beating the competition by over 24 points.
On the 3-meter board, Ni's preliminary score of 262.95 left her tied with Oakland's Chelsea Oates entering the finals. In her final six dives, Ni boosted her score to 282.70, again breaking The Summit League Championship record and clearing Oates' mark by 14 points.
For Ni, it was her first Diver of the Year honor in her first season with the Jaguars.
The Carmel, Ind.-native will compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota March 13-15. It will be Ni's first trip to the meet.
