IUPUI senior women's basketball player Jernisha Cann has been chosen as IUPUI's Student-Athlete of the Month for December. Cann posted five of her 12 straight double-doubles during the month.
In December, Cann helped IUPUI to the championship game of the South Padre Island Shootout; in a benchmark 64-52 win over Virginia Tech, Cann had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 steals. In the championship game, the Kansas City, Mo.-native had 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Her efforts in South Padre Island earned Cann an all-tournament team selection, her second of the 2008-09 season.
For the month, Cann averaged 16.6 points and 11.2 rebounds in helping IUPUI to wins over Western Illinois and Virginia Tech.
The senior took home Summit League Player of the Week honors on Dec. 2 and Dec. 23.
The student-athlete of the month honor is the fourth in the last two years for Cann.
