LOUISVILLE, Ky. - IU Indianapolis men's track standout
Luke Shappell set the program's 1,500m record on Saturday (Apr. 25) as the Jaguars competed at Lousville's Jim Freeman / Clark Wood Open. Shappell claimed second-place of almost 80 runners spread across seven heats, posting a time of 3:46.52 to lower his own school record by nearly a full second.
Two other Jaguars notched personal bests in the 1,500 as
Alec Hueftle finished at 3:54.55 and freshman
Zach Risner crossed at 3:59.48.
The day began with three Jaguars participating in a strong 5,000m race as freshman
Eli Oetken was the team's top finisher at 14:48.99.
Sam Grimes ran a time of 14:53.79 and
Joey LaPatra spun a personal best time of 14:59.10. In the 3,000m steeplechase,
Nolan King continued to impress with a time of 9:24.22, taking four seconds off his prior best. Freshman
Evan Farmer shed 15 seconds off his previous best with a time of 9:42.59.
Saturday's competition wrapped up preparations for the upcoming Horizon League Outdoor Championships, to be held in Rochester, Mich., on May 8-10.
