ROCHESTER, Mich. -
Alec Hueftle continued to build on the IU Indianapolis men's track team's point total on Saturday (May 9) as he posted a fifth-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase to end the evening, clocking a personal best effort. The distance dominant IU Indy team had limited entries on Saturday, but Hueftle helped to maximize the efforts, placing fifth overall in a time of 9:18.53, shaving four seconds off his prior best.
Behind him, junior
Nolan King clocked a time of 9:42.51 and freshman
Evan Farmer won the earlier of the two heats in a time of 9:45.53, surging late to earn the win.
Earlier in the evening sophomore
Nick Cook earned a spot in the 800m finals with a quality time of 1:52.30, placing third in his heat to have to play the waiting game. Sophomore
Jaydon Steidinger ran a time of 1:56.76 in a quirky final race. Steidinger made a late move to briefly take the lead, but after being passed near the final turn, his late kick ended up falling short of an automatic berth.
The Jaguars will conclude the three-day meet on Sunday with an assortment of entries and finalists spread across the day's distance and mid-distance events.
