AZUSA, Calif. - Eight members of the IU Indianapolis men's track team will head to California this week to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. The meet, known as the largest and fastest collegiate meet in the country, provides a fantastic backdrop for runners chasing marks during the outdoor season.
The three-day meet will begin on Wednesday (Apr. 16) and run through Friday (Apr. 18).
Head Coach
Justin Roeder's squad will take
Mitchell Gits and
Nate Kaiser to compete in the 10,000m event on Wednesday while six others will compete on Thursday. The group of
Joey LaPatra,
Sam Grimes,
Riley Nixon and
Luke Shappell will run the 5,000m event on Thursday while rookies
Joey Ashman and
Nick Cook compete in the 800m event.
Gits comes in with a personal best 10K time of 29:45.58 while Kaiser has run 30:05.08. In the 5K, LaPatra has run 15:05.67 and Grimes has run 15:57.33 while Nixon and Shappell will both run their first outdoor 5K races. Cook is the school record holder in the 800m event at 1:52.36 while Ashman is coming off a personal best time of 1:53.00 last weekend.
