ROCHESTER, Mich. - The IUPUI men's track and field team continued to showcase its strength in the distance events on the final day of the #HLTF Outdoor Championships on Sunday (May 8), earning runner-up finishes in both the 1,500m and 5,000m events. The Jaguars continued to pile up points in the distance events, ultimately finishing with 47 points to place sixth in the team standings.

Senior Eric Hoffman opened the day with a second-place finish in the 1,500m event with a time of 3:54.77. In the 400m event, freshman James Kuisel finished eighth in the finals with a time of 50.79 as the lone rookie in the field.

The fast heat of the 5K was tactical from the opening gun before runners began making moves with just under a mile remaining. Nate Kaiser earned a tough runner-up finish at 14:44.58 and Eric Petersen was fifth at 14:47.50. Nick Perkins placed seventh at 14:58.83 and Hoffman was tenth at 15:02.80. In the first heat, Wilson Whicker was IUPUI's top finisher at 15:35.18.

The Jaguars' 4x400 relay team set a new school record with a time of 3:29.10 as Kuisel, Alex Alba, Jacob Williams and Hoffman shaved just more than a second off the prior mark.

The meet ended with an exhibition mixed gender 4x400 relay as the quartet of Will Berning, Kelly Zehnder, Keith Bye and Amani Miles clocked a time of 3:51.42 to finish second. Berning opened with a 51 second split and Miles held off a late charge from an Oakland competitor over the final 50 meters to seal second place.
