James Kuisel broke the program record in the 200m event while graduate transfer
Will Berning set a new school record in winning the javelin throw as well.
Berning, a graduate transfer from Concordia-Moorhead, competed for IUPUI for the first time on Friday and made an immediate impact, throwing a personal best mark of 61.83m (202' 10'') on his initial throw of the night. He easily punched a ticket into the finals and rode his first throw to a victory, easily outdistancing the second-place finisher by more than five meters. He broke IUPUI's program record by a lofty 15 meters.
In the 200m event, Kuisel clocked a time of 22.57 to break the school record by a half second.
In the 1,500m,
Eric Hoffman just missed a personal best time as he clocked a 3:53.37 effort in the quickest heat of the night, placing sixth of 12 runners. His time was the fastest by an IUPUI runner this season, outdistancing an earlier 3:55 performance from
Nate Kaiser. In the second heat,
Will Clark paced IUPUI's entries with a personal best time of 4:01.28 and
Solomon Barket had a major personal best with a time of 4:03.02.
Jacob Williams (4:10.85) and
Justin Amburgy (4:12.35) also spun new personal bests in the event, as did
Jack Acton (4:15.79) and
Alex Alba (4:20.06), coming off an injury.
Eric Petersen, who missed the recent California trip due to illness, was the Jaguars' top performer in the 5K on Friday, placing third overall in a time of 14:38.93.
Mitchell Rans came through in a time of 14:59.95.
The Jaguars will now return to traning to prepare for the Horizon League Outdoor Championships to be held in Rochester, Mich., on May 6-8.
