LEBANON, Ind. - For the Holt family, golf is a family affair. That's why it was only fitting the father-son duo of Tim Holt and IUPUI to-be sophomore
Justin Holt won the IGA-PGA Father Son Championship at Ulen Country Club this past weekend. The pair outgunned 12 other father-son duos to win the tournament for the first time.
"It was a course we were both very comfortable at and it was the course my dad had his first assistant pro job at," the younger Holt said. "We both played great. I stayed very consistent throughout the day and my dad caught fire towards the end of the round, making four birdies on the back nine."
The elder Holt has had a busy summer, finishing second at the Indiana PGA Northern Open in June and finished tied for second at Hillview Country Club in April. Holt's mother, Susan, is head coach of the women's program at Notre Dame. However, it was he and his father that brought home the most recent hardware.
"It was a tournament we really wanted to win, having placed second the past three years. It felt great to finally win it."
The younger Holt authored a tournament victory during his redshirt freshman season in 2016-17, winning the Butler Spring Invite with a five-over 149 (75-74) at Highland Country Club. Holt closed his rookie year with a 78.07 scoring average in 28 rounds, spanning 10 tournaments.
