NORMAL, Ill. – A season that continues to roll in history, the IUPUI softball team (23-29, 11-6) will head to its first-ever postseason as the team will take part in the newly implemented National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) this week, as the team is slated to face Illinois State (30-21) at 8 p.m. EST Tuesday (May 16).  The four-team regional portion of the tournament will take place May 16-18, as it also features Murray State (35-18) and Michigan State (31-22). 
 
The Jags are fresh off their second-ever trip to the championship game in the Summit League Tournament this past weekend, falling to North Dakota State.  The Jags gained an automatic bid to the NISC with their regular season conference title, the first time the program has ever captured the top spot heading into the league tourney. 
 
IUPUI already faced Illinois State earlier in the season at the Western Kentucky Spring Fling, as the Jags were topped 10-1 on February 25.  The Jags were 2-10 at that point, but would rebound to go 21-19 over their remaining 40 contests, including an 11-6 record against Summit League opponents.  The teams have faced each other just twice in their history, with the Redbirds capturing both games.
 
This season, IUPUI saw several records fall as the Jaguars have a prolific offense.  The Jags landed six All-Summit League selections in addition to Maggie Good being named the Player of the Year and head coach Heather Tarter earning Coach of the Year.  Good set the record for most homeruns (17) and RBIs (49) in a single season, while First-Team All-Summit Leaguer Roni Patterson became the all-time leader in RBIs and homeruns.
