INDIANAPOLIS – Continuing on with the team's break from conference play, the IUPUI softball team (13-19, 3-0) will return to the confines of the Jaguars Softball Complex as the Jags host Indiana State (15-17, 2-7) Tuesday at 5 p.m. EST in a mid-week single game. After winning seven-straight games, including a sweep in their Summit League opening series, the Jags have fallen off with back-to-back losses.
A team that seemed to be rounding into form, the Jags have already picked up two Summit League Pitcher of the Week awards, as both
Erica Tharp and
Nickole Finch have been presented the honor for the first time in their respective careers. Tharp owns a 4.11 ERA in 15 starts while Finch is one of the leaders in the league with a 9-8 record. She has compiled a 4.44 ERA through 16 starts with 12 complete games, striking out 85 batters in 115 innings of work.
Maggie Good remains a leader in the league with eight homeruns, hitting a team-best .337 with a .426 on-base percentage.
Alyssa Matson owns a .325 average while operating out of the top spot in the lineup, going a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases.
Roni Patterson is within striking distance of several career records at IUPUI, as the backstop is hitting .315 with five homers and 20 RBIs.
As a team, the Jags are hitting .269 while the pitching staff owns a combined 4.46 ERA. The Sycamores are swinging a better collective bat at .289, while the pitchers have put up similar numbers at a 4.35 ERA. Like the Jags, the Sycamores have primarily operated with just two pitchers, but have created offense in a different way. The Trees have been very active on the base paths, swiping 55 stolen bases as a team, while the Jags have just 12 on the year. Dissimilarly, the Jags have knocked 23 homeruns on the season, while the Sycamores have gone yard just 11 times.
The two teams met once in the 2016 season, with the Jags securing a 6-5 win in an 11 inning marathon as
Ali Mosier hit an RBI groundout that proved to be the game winner. IUPUI and Indiana State have met 31 times in their history, with the Sycamores taking 20 of those games. The Jags have won three in-a-row however, and four of the last five.
Admission to the event is free. Live stats will be available online if conditions permit. The IUPUI official twitter account will have real time updates on the accessibility of live stats.
