JAGUARS CONTINUE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE IN FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS

IUPUI will compete in the Wooo Pig Classic, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Heading into a weekend loaded with opportunities to compete against national powerhouse programs, the IUPUI softball team (4-11) will participate in the Wooo Pig Classic (March 4-6), hosted by the University of Arkansas.  The Jags will face three teams across five games, as all three opponents finished the 2016 season ranked in the top-100 in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI).

On the season, the Jags have enjoyed steady offensive production, averaging roughly 3.6 runs per game on a team .251 batting average. Alyssa Matson currently ranks second in the Summit League with a .407 average, while Maggie Good and Taylor Chitwood have been the top run producers in the League.  Good leads all players with 15 RBIs while hitting .341 with three homeruns, while Chitwood has 12 RBIs on a .306 average with two homeruns.  The Jags started the season 0-7, but have since gone 4-4 over their last eight games and have a two-game winning streak.

The Jags will open the weekend Friday against Nebraska (2-10) at 11 a.m. EST.  The Cornhuskers finished 2016 ranked 34th in RPI and were an NCAA Regional Qualifier from a season ago.  Highly deceptive is the 10 losses the Cornhuskers have suffered this season, as the team has faced eight teams ranked in the top-25, according to the USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll. That includes facing both the #1 Florida State Seminoles and the #2 Auburn Tigers.

Game two on Friday will come against Lamar, who finished 91st in RPI in 2016.  This season, the Cardinals are 5-10 and are coming off a 3-2 showing in their own tournament hosted in Beaumont, Texas.  The Cardinals finished 2016 with a 35-22 overall record and an 18-9 record against Southland Conference opponents.

Saturday will feature a rematch with the Cornhuskers before the Jags face off with Arkansas (11-1) at 4 p.m. EST.  The Razorbacks are currently receiving votes in the top-25 polls and have picked up six run-rule wins this season.  Their lone loss came against Florida Atlantic, but the team has since reeled off three-straight wins.  The Jags will close the weekend against the Razorbacks again on Sunday.
