CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Heading into their second weekend of the new season, the IUPUI softball team (0-5) will take part in the Chattanooga Challenge, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Jags are scheduled to face five teams across six games, starting Friday (Feb. 17) with Radford at 11 a.m. EST.
The Jags opened the weekend at the Total Control Sports Invitational this past weekend (Feb. 10-12), remaining competitive throughout despite losing all five contests. A recurring theme throughout was the Jags ability to produce baserunners, but also their inability to cash in on the scoring opportunities.
Alyssa Matson, in her first year as a full-time starter, went 6-for-16 (.375) with a pair of doubles. The senior collected eight total bases with a walk, stolen base and an RBI.
Delilah Wright had a 3-for-3 game in the finale of the tournament, boosting her average to .375 for the season.
Erica Tharp started three games for the Jags, going the distance in one of those contests. The sophomore righty threw 18 innings of work with a 4.50 ERA, striking out five.
Radford will make their season debut against the Jags, following up from a 35-26 showing last season. Kennesaw State, the Jags second opponent Friday, are 3-2 this year, including a 14-0 drubbing of South Carolina State at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial.
The Jags will follow Friday with a pair of games Saturday (Feb. 18) against Connecticut (11 a.m.) and host Chattanooga (1:30 p.m.), capping the weekend Sunday (Feb. 19) against UConn (9 a.m.) and Tennessee Tech (11:30 a.m.).
Live stats will be available for each games, with the links found on the Jags
schedule page.
