BROOKINGS, S.D. – After a strong showing this past weekend in which the team recorded its first pair of Summit League wins, the IUPUI softball team (13-27, 2-9) will head out on the road in hopes of building on their recent winning ways, making the trek north as the Jaguars will face South Dakota State (16-29, 2-7) in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday (April 23). The series will wrap up with a single game Sunday (April 24).
The Jaguars are led on the season by
Ali Mosier who boasts a team-best .331 average to go along with team-highs in hits (43), runs scored (29), doubles (11), triples (2), home runs (8), walks (19), total bases (82), and slugging percentage (.631).
Taylor Chitwood is swinging .316 with a team-best 33 runs batted in (RBIs), while the dual-threat of
Kaitlynn Moody features both a .317 average at the plate and a 3.41 earned run average (ERA) in the circle.
Brooke Boetjer leads the pitching staff with a team-best 3.29 ERA with a 7-12 record, tossing 11 complete games through 117.0 innings of work. She leads the team with 82 strikeouts.
This past weekend against IPFW, the Jags received complete game contributions from both Moody and Boetjer in games one and two of the series. Moody went seven innings while surrendering just one earned run on five hits while striking out six and walking none. Boetjer only needed five innings for the complete game, as the offense behind her run-ruled the Mastodons. She surrendered just three hits and one walk while picking up one strikeout in the shutout.
South Dakota State is coming off a series loss and three-game sweep at the hands of North Dakota State (April 15-16), while following that with their own doubleheader sweep of Dakota Wesleyan (April 21). The Jackrabbits pair of Summit League victories this season have come against Western Illinois (March 25) and Omaha (April 9), while the team won their first games at home in the doubleheader Thursday (2-5). As a team, the Jackrabbits are hitting .258 through 45 games, while throwing a 4.31 ERA as a staff.
After the pair of wins this past weekend, head coach
Amanda Rivera has moved into third place all-time at IUPUI in wins with 88. She trails only Julie Pratt in the program's Division I era, and the all-time school leader Nick Kellum.
