Morgan Gilbert went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs at the plate

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The IU Indy softball team saw their 2025 season come to a close in a high-scoring thriller Thursday night, falling 12-10 to the Green Bay Phoenix in the Horizon League Tournament at Viking Field. Graduate student Morgan Gilbert led the Jags at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 mark with three runs and one RBI.

IU Indy jumped ahead early, scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Kendal Calvert came home on a passed ball, 1-0. Green Bay answered in the third inning with a three-run homer to put the Phoenix ahead 3-1. The Jaguars responded quickly with sacrifice flies from Molly Kable and Callie Dickerson to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the third frame.

The Phoenix retook a commanding lead with three runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth. Sidney LaMotte and Brooke Schwall both went deep for Green Bay, combining for four RBI to give the Phoenix a 10-3 lead.

IU Indy refused to go down without a fight, putting up two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 10-8. Gilbert led the way with four hits and an RBI, while Paige McPhearson and Molly Kable each drove in runs during the comeback attempt.

Green Bay padded its lead with two more runs in the seventh inning, including a solo homer from Paige Hanson. Down 12-8, the Jaguars made one final push in the bottom half of the inning. Gilbert's two-run single brought IU Indy within two runs and put the tying run at the plate, but Green Bay closed the door with the final out to end the game, 12-10.
