INDIANAPOLIS - For the second consecutive night, the IUPUI volleyball team hit above .350 for the match as it cruised to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-17) win over Omaha Saturday evening at The Jungle.

With the win, IUPUI upped its overall record to 8-11 and evened its Summit League record at 2-2. Omaha dropped to 5-13 overall and 0-3 in The Summit League.

Moriah Fair continued her impressive offensive output from last night by putting down 12 kills and hitting .476, but Kelly Wachtel also added 12 kills and hit a career-high .857 clip to lead all players. Wachtel's hitting percentage also set a new school record for the highest hitting percentage in a match.

"I thought our passing was just as good as last night. I think Omaha had a little bigger block than last night, but we still did a good job of moving it around and when we were one-on-one we put the ball away," head coach Steve Payne said.

Long rallies behind the serving of Logan Walling and Kaitlyn Hickey helped IUPUI sprint out to a 12-6 lead in the opening set. With the lead at eight points, 19-11, a kill from Wachtel followed by back-to-back Kortni Wright kills allowed IUPUI to double up the Mavericks, 22-11. Three side outs ensued before Fair delivered back-to-back kills to finish off a 25-13 opening-set win for the Jags.

The early stages of set two was much closer with IUPUI owning just a two-point lead at 8-6, but a kill from Hickey kickstarted a five-point surge that slid the lead to seven, 13-6, forcing an Omaha timeout. Three side outs ensued before an eight-point IUPUI run catapulted it in front by 14 points, 22-8. From that point, the Jaguars cruised to a 25-12 win in set two.

Two kills apiece from Wachtel and Fair and three Omaha attack errors carried IUPUI to a four-point lead in the early stages of set three, but two more Mavericks errors, a Meredith Farkas ace and a Wright kill expanded the cushion to eight, 12-4. Omaha cut its deficit in half when it closed within four at 18-14, but that would be as close as it reached as the Jags eventually took the third set, 25-17.

IUPUI returns to the floor in a week when it welcomes in-state and conference rival IPFW to The Jungle on Saturday, Oct. 12. The match against the Mastodons is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., and the match will also serve as IUPUI's Breast Cancer Awareness match.

The Jaguars will be raising money for Ribbon Chicks, an organization co-founded by former IUPUI volleyball player Jen Mertz Will. The organization's mission is to assist breast cancer survivors within Northeast Indiana through programs and education, and provide the opportunity for limited financial support while continuing to advocate for young breast cancer patients.
