MACOMB, Ill. – On Tuesday, the IUPUI volleyball team’s five-match road trip did not begin the way it wanted to with a loss at Oakland, but the Jaguars look to get back on track this weekend against Summit League foe Western Illinois and Chicago State.
The Jags first head to Macomb, Ill., for a 6 p.m. ET meeting with the Leathernecks on Saturday, Oct. 6, before closing out the weekend at Chicago State on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. ET.
“Western Illinois is playing really well right now following its win at Saint Louis earlier this week,” said head coach
Steve Payne. “We need to refocus and play with more intensity if we want to come out of this weekend with two victories.”
The last two matches,
Moriah Fair has been IUPUI’s top offensive option averaging 4.17 kps, while hitting .339, upping her eight-best kills average in the league to 3.16 kps. Defensively,
Beth Howard still sits atop the conference rankings in digs with 5.89 dps, while
Bethany Fogler remains in third in blocks with 1.15 bps.
ABOUT WESTERN ILLINOIS
Western Illinois (8-9; 2-4 SL) owns a team hitting percentage of .202 on the season and the squad is led offensively by Samantha Fournier’s 3.45 kps.
In conference matches, the Leathernecks rank second in service aces averaging 1.25 sa/s. Katie Hosteng has recorded 10 of the team’s 35 aces in league play and her 0.36 average ranks third.
IUPUI is 16-9 all-time against WIU and has won eight straight in the series.
ABOUT CHICAGO STATE
IUPUI will step out of conference play on Sunday, Oct. 6, when it takes on the Cougars in Chicago. CSU is 2-16 on the season and 0-1 in the Great West.
The Cougars are hitting .071 on the season and the top offensive threat for Chicago State is Sydney Van Munster, who averages 2.27 kps and is hitting a team-best .229.
The Jags are 15-1 all-time against Chicago State and are 7-1 when playing the Cougars in Chicago.
