INDIANAPOLIS – Now at the midway point of the Summit League schedule, every match carries more significance and this weekend features a pair of important contests for the IUPUI volleyball team as it concludes its longest road trip of the season at South Dakota and Kansas City.
The Jaguars open their weekend with a 5 p.m. ET meeting on Friday, Oct. 12 against the Coyotes in Vermillion, S.D., before making their way to Kansas City, Mo., to face the Kangaroos at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 14.
IUPUI currently sits in second place in the Summit League standings with a 6-2 conference record, while South Dakota is in seventh with a 2-5 mark and Kansas City is in third with a 5-3 league record.
The Jags improved their record to 6-2 last weekend with a three-set sweep over Western Illinois thanks in part to #Moriah Fair’s match-high 17 kills. For her play throughout the week, Fair was named the Summit League Player of the Week for the first time in her career averaging 4.50 kps and hitting .364 in three matches.
At the midway point of the conference schedule, IUPUI leads the conference in kills per set (14.73 kps), hitting percentage (.236), assists per game (13.83 aps) and digs per set (19.13 dps), while ranking second in blocks per set (2.27 bps).
ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA
The Coyotes are 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the Summit League heading into the second half of the conference season. USD is led offensively by Kristen Kritenbrink’s 4.61 kps, which ranks second in the conference.
Starting with its loss at IUPUI on Sept. 15, South Dakota dropped five straight matches until picking up a tough five-set win at South Dakota State on Oct. 6.
The Jaguars are 3-0 all-time against the Coyotes.
ABOUT KANSAS CITY
The Kangaroos have won three of their last four conference matches to improve to 5-3 in the Summit League. Emily Lucas has been a standout performer for UMKC through eight conference matches leading the league in kills averaging 5.00 kps.
Lucas’ production is nearly than twice that of Emma Hagedorn’s 2.60 kps, who is second on the team in kills, but Hagedorn is hitting at a .385 clip which leads the squad.
IUPUI is 15-10 all-time against Kansas City.
