IU Indy Athletics

Joey Zielinski was named the Team MVP and Top Newcomer in his freshman year Cross Country season. Additionally throughout his four years, he was IUPUI's top finisher in five out of six meets his freshman year, ran a school record 10K time of 31:22 to become the first IUPUI runner to go under 32 minutes his sophomore season, and was the Second Team All-Summit his junior and senior seasons. He helped his Cross Country team win back-to-back titles. In his indoor and outdoor Track and Field seasons, he finished his freshman season with school records in the mile and 5k and then set a new school record mile time of 4:14.95 in his junior season.

He was also IUPUI's Mel Garland Student-Athlete recipient. 

Academically, he was named to The Summit League's Fall Academic list, chosen as a Summit League Honor Roll Distinguished Scholar three separate years, voted to the Academic All-Summit League by the league's faculty athletic representative and sports information personnel in three separate seasons, named to The Summit League Commissioner's List of Excellence in three separate season, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee in his 2013-14 season. For all four seasons, he has been named to the IUPUI's Academic Advisor's List.
