LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The IU Indianapolis men's and women's track and field teams are slated to compete at the University of Louisville's Jim Freeman / Clark Wood Open this weekend with athletes competing on Friday (Apr. 24) and Saturday (Apr. 25). The men's team is scheduled to compete in six different events spread over two days while the women's squad will participate in 11 different events.
The men's entries are highlighted by sophomores
Nick Cook and
Riley Nixon in the 800m event on Friday, followed by a trio of Jags in the 5K, including
Eli Oetken and
Sam Grimes. Nixon is coming off a school record performance in the 1,500 at Wake Forest last weekend while Cook owns a personal best 800m time of 1:52.01. Oetken is tops among the three 5K entries with a personal best time of 14:48.27. On Saturday, junior
Luke Shappell keys the entries in the 1,500 with a personal best time of 3:47.42 while
Nolan King is tops among the 3,000m steeplechase entrants with a best time of 9:28.67.
The Jaguars will also take aim at the 400m event with
Liam Lilly and
Jaydon Steidinger on Saturday and have a 4x400 relay team entered to conclude the day's events.
On the women's side,
Sarah Madi-Bouabre,
Jahzara McAlister and
Paige Schulte key the sprinters with McAlister owning personal best times of 12.17 in the 100m dash and 25.00 in the 200m event. Madi-Bouabre will also compete in the long jump after a personal best effort of 5.70m (18' 8.5'') at Indiana State last weekend. Junior
Journey Howard and freshman
Sophia Palmer key the hurdlers as Howard has run 14.83 in the 100m hurdles and Palmer is coming off a 1:04.39 in the 400m hurdles. Howard is also entered in the high jump, owning a best mark of 1.61m (5' 3.25'').
Grace Bragg is tops among the 1,500m entries with a best time of 4:46.50 while senior
Carina Alanis is tops among the 5,000m entries at 18:34.96.
The Jags will compete in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on Saturday, after having already set school records in both events already this season.
