ST. LOUIS - IU Indianapolis men's track junior
Luke Shappell capped an overall strong day of events for the Jaguars on Friday (Mar. 27), setting a new program record in the 5,000m event at the WashU. Distance Carnival.
Shappell notched a time of 14:07.79, placing sixth overall and breaking the prior school record by four seconds. The Jaguars' distance ace was tracking on a sub-14 minute effort before gutting out the final mile and closing with his fastest 400 meters of the race.
Sophomore
Riley Nixon ran a personal best time of 14:30.35 in the same heat as Shappell, closing out a full day of racing for the Jaguars. Earlier, freshman
Eli Oetken spun a time of 14:48.27 in his first career outdoor 5K and
Zach Risner ran a time of 15:08.39. Sophomore
TJ Gorman ran a personal best time of 15:14.41 and rookie
Caleb Webb clocked a time of 15:27.87.
In the 10,000m event,
Joey LaPatra turned in a time of 30:48.60 and
Matt Mitsch ran a time of 31:55.71. Sophomore
Sam Grimes finished his 10K race in a time of 32:25.28.
Meanwhile in Indianapolis, a group of Jaguars took to the track at Marian's Knight Open, contested in cold, rainy conditions. Freshman
Liam Lilly paced the entries in the 1,500m event with a time of 4:04.66 while
Jackson Tuck won his heat in a time of 4:15.25.
Jaydon Steidinger finished fourth overall in the 800m event with a time of 1:58.40 and
Carter Schorr was seventh overall in the 5,000m event at 15:27.48. Behind him,
Cameron Smith spun a time of 15:42.45.
