ATLANTA - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field squad will begin the outdoor season this weekend when the Jaguars participate in the two-day Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility. The Jaguars will get the opportunity to post early season times and marks while competing against athletes from across the Midwest and South.
The meet will start at 11:30 a.m. with the hammer throw before the full slate of field events all begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday's running events will begin at 6 p.m. as the 5000m races close the night out at 8:15 p.m. Saturday's field events will all start at noon as the track races commence at 1 p.m. concluding with the 4x400m relay at 3:40 p.m.
Head coach
Antonio McDaniel's squad will have athletes spread across 10 events over two days with exclusively runners on the track on Friday. Junior
Journey Howard is tops among the team's entries in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.83 seconds while sophomore
Jahzara McAlister leads the sprinters with a best 100m dash time of 12.17 seconds. In the distance events,
Julie Smith enters with a personal best 1,500m time of 4:47.23 and best 5K time of 17:45.72. Senior
Wini Barnett is next in line in the 1,500 at 4:49.77 and fellow senior
Carina Alanis owns a 5K time of 18:37.61.
On Saturday, a pair of freshmen will make their outdoor debut in the high jump as both
Payton Gross and
Elisa Algozine are entered. The triple jump is keyed by school record holder
Reese McCuan, who has a best mark of 11.37m (37' 3.75''). On the track, the Jaguars will open the day with an entry in the 4x100 relay as
Sophia Palmer, McAlister,
Paige Schulte and freshman
Sarah Madi-Bouabre are set to compete.
Senior
Jada-Marie Davis is tops among the team's 400m hurdles entrants will a best time of 1:05.06 and Schulte is best among the 400m entries with a personal best time of 57.57. Both entrants in the 200m dash, Madi-Bouabre and Skyler Ferry, will be making their outdoor debuts.
