YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The IU Indianapolis women's track and field team closed the 2026 Horizon League Indoor Championships with a new school record in the 4x400 relay, closing out the two-day meet inside the Watson and Tressel Training Site on the Youngstown State campus. The relay record highlighted the weekend for an otherwise wounded IU Indy squad.
Earlier in the day, junior
Journey Howard finished ninth overall in the high jump with a best mark of 1.57m (5' 1.75''), just missing a podium finish. Freshmen
Payton Gross and
Elisa Algozine both ended the event with a best jump of 1.52m (4' 11.75'').
In the triple jump, senior
Reese McCuan placed tenth overall at 10.93m (35' 10.5''), also just missing a podium finish.
In the 800m finals, senior
Wini Barnett earned a qualifying spot with a strong preliminary run before finishing eighth in the finals with a time of 2:24.83. She was well positioned midway through the race, but ultimately powered down as the leaders extended a gap with 300 meters remaining.
In the mile, sophomore
Ella Colclesser was the team's top finisher at 5:15.35 and freshman
Kaylynn Bedel clocked a time of 5:20.79. The 3,000m event saw Colclesser run a time of 10:37.56 while senior
Carina Alanis ran a personal best time of 10:44.22, taking five seconds off her prior best. Freshman
Riley Flynn ran a time of 10:51.92 from the slowest of the three heats.
The 4x400 relay team of
Jahzara McAlister,
Skylar Ferry,
Sophia Palmer and Barnett spun a time of 3:54.35, breaking the previous school record by nearly a full second.
The Jaguars will now turn attention to the outdoor season with hopes of regaining some healthy bodies as the season progresses.
