YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - IU Indianapolis women's track senior
Wini Barnett punched a ticket to Sunday's finals in the 800m event and four of her teammates recorded new personal bests as the Jaguars wrapped up action on day one of the #HLTF Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28). Barnett earned an automatic berth into the finals of the 800m event with a time of 2:15.55, assuring the Jags of points on the meet's final day.
Earlier in the day, junior
Journey Howard matched her personal best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.12 seconds in the prelims, just missing making the finals. In the 400m prelims, both
Jahzara McAlister and
Skylar Ferry ran new personal bests, crossing at 57.55 and 59.80, respectively.
In the 60m dash, freshman
Sarah Madi-Bouabre clocked a time of 7.81 seconds, also just missing a spot in the Sunday's finals.
Barnett finished comfortably in second in her opening heat of the 800m to earn a spot in the finals. Freshman
Jenna Twedt clocked a time of 2:19.31, finishing third in her race and was ninth overall, just missing a wild card spot in the finals.
In the 200m event, Madi-Bouabre ran a personal best time of 25.27 while McAlister ran a personal best time of 25.32.
The night concluded with the Jaguars earning an eighth-place finish in the distance medley relay as
Ella Colclesser,
Sophia Palmer, Twedt and
Kaylynn Bedel combined on a time of 12:36.63.
The Jaguars will begin action on Sunday, beginning with the high jump at 9:15 a.m.
