OXFORD, Ohio - The IU Indianapolis men's track team will open the outdoor slate on Friday (Mar. 20) when the Jaguars compete at Miami's Blizzard Buster at Yeager Stadium. The Jaguars will compete in three events, ranging from the 800m to the 3,000m distances.
The Jaguars' entries will begin with the 1,500m event in the morning, keyed by the group of
Sam Grimes,
Alec Hueftle,
Joey LaPatra and
Eli Oetken. Grimes owns a personal best time of 4:02.15 while Hueftle has run 4:04.87. In the 3,000m event, all five Jaguars will run the distance for the first time in outdoor competition. Among them is freshman
Evan Farmer and veteran
Nolan King.
In the 800m event, the Jaguars trio of
Luke Shappell,
Riley Nixon and
Jaydon Steidinger will compete in the fastest of the heats with Shappell owning a personal best time of 1:52.19. Nixon checks in at 1:52.57 and Steidinger holds a personal best time of 1:54.87. Shappell is coming off a Horizon League title in the mile during the indoor season while Nixon was just behind him as runner-up. Steidinger was the team's top performer in the 800m event at the Horizon League Indoor Championships, earning a spot in the finals before posting a sixth-place finish.
