ALLENDALE, Mich. - The IU Indianapolis men's track team will split efforts between the GVSU Big Meets and the Heartland Invitational at the nearby Fall Creek Pavilion this weekend. The bulk of the team will head north to Grand Valley State chasing fast marks while three others will stay back and compete at the familiar Fall Creek Pavilion.
The men's squad enters Friday's events at GVSU, having already set some new low standards this season. Five Jags will run their first collegiate indoor 5Ks while
Sam Grimes and
Joey LaPatra have personal best times of 14:53.91 and 14:51.47, respectively. In the 800m event,
Joey Ashman broke the school record already this season with a time of 1:50.78 while
Jaydon Steidinger checks in with a personal best time of 1:54.32.
Freshman
Evan Farmer is the team's lone entry in the mile with a personal best time of 4:23.35. Junior
Luke Shappell and sophomore
Riley Nixon will cap Friday's efforts in the 3,000m event with Shappell having previously run 8:15.20.
On Saturday, four Jaguars will return to the track in the 3,000m event at GVSU, keyed by Grimes' personal best time of 8:32.58. LaPatra will also compete, having run 8:34.35 previously.
Meanwhile in Indy, three Jaguars will compete on back-to-back days, beginning with the 3K on Friday and the mile on Saturday.
Nolan King tops the three entries in the 3K having run 8:45.50 and
Carter Schorr has clocked 8:54.63. In the mile, King owns a personal best time of 4:23.51 while Schorr and
Zach Risner will make their collegiate debuts in the event.
