INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indianapolis men's and women's track and field teams will compete at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic inside the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion this weekend. The two-day meet will begin on Friday (Jan. 16) and conclude on Saturday (Jan. 17).
The meet marks the second indoor competition of the season for the women's program and the season debut for the men's squad.
On Friday, the women's team will roll out a full contingent of competitors with
Sarah Madi-Bouabre making her debut in the long jump and four others participating in the high jump, keyed by freshman
Elisa Algozine.
Jahzara McAlister headlines the entrants in the 60m dash, having run 7.81 seconds in her season debut.
Pa'Shence Purnell is the team's top entry in the 60m hurdles, having run 9.35 seconds in the season opener. On Friday night,
Ella Colclesser is among four entrants in the 3,000m event making her indoor season debut while seven others are slated for the 200m event. McAlister ran the team's best 200m time of 25.77 at the season opener.
On the men's side, 10 Jaguars will run the 3,000m event on Friday night with rookie
Eli Oetken earning a spot in the fast heat. Other Jaguars making their collegiate debuts include
Isaac Riggs,
Zach Risner and
Evan Farmer. Sophomore
TJ Gorman is the top returning entry in the 3K, having run 8:54.07 at that distance and Nicolas Probst has run 8:54.67.
On Saturday,
Skyler Sichting and
Morgan Hoard will open the day's events in the shot put, followed by
Reese McCuan's entry in the triple jump. Three Jaguars will compete in the mile, led by
Julie Smith, who comes in off a First Team All-Horizon League berth during cross country season.
Jenna Twedt will make her indoor debut in the 800m event and the meet will conclude with the 4x400 relay.
The men will have five entries in the mile, including sophomore
Joey LaPatra, who owns a personal best time of 4:20.57. Ashman is also slated for the 800m event alongside freshman
Liam Lilly.
