XIA, ARONHALT LEAD WOMEN'S GOLF AT FIGHTING IRISH CLASSIC

Jaguars card rounds of 324 and 321 on Sunday (Sept. 28)

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Freshmen continued to lead the way for the IU Indianapolis women's golf team on Sunday (Sept. 28) as rookie Li (Sherry) Xia and classmate Olivia Aronhalt were the team's top two finishers at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Course. Xia carded a 36-hole 157 (83-74) to finish tied for 16th among the 54-player field and Aronhalt shot 158 (77-81) to close tied for 20th. 

The Jaguars placed eighth of the nine teams competing at 645 (324-321). 

Aronhalt led the way in the morning round with a 5-over 77 and Rolston shot 9-over 81. Both had a pair of birdies in round one to account for the team's four birdies. Xia and Frauhiger were both countable at 11-over 83 and Stuart shot 12-over 84. 

The Jags got off to a strong start in round two as Xia was even through nine, including back-to-back birdies on her seventh and eighth holes of the round. Rolston made an early birdie and was 1-under through four holes, while Frauhiger shook off a slow start and rallied with seven straight pars midway through her second round. Aronhalt also rallied, making back-to-back birdies on par-4s late in her round. 

Xia shot 2-over 74 in round two while Aronhalt closed at 9-over 81. Frauhiger finished at 10-over 82 and both Rolston and Stuart posted rounds of 84. 

Aronhalt finished among the field's top-10 with a team-high five birdies while Xia had a team-high 21 pars. 

Host Notre Dame cruised to the team title at 583, winning by 24 shots of their closest competition. UND's Alexsandra Lapple earned medalist honors at 3-under 141 on the day. 

The Jaguars will return to action on Oct. 6-7 when they compete in the WMU Bronco Fall Classic in Portage, Mich.
