INDIANAPOLIS - After leading the IU Indianapolis men's cross country and track & field programs the past three seasons, Men's Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Justin Roeder has stepped down to pursue other professional opportunities. The Athletics Department and Director of Athletics Luke Bosso have named Justin Amburgy as Interim Head Coach, effective immediately.

"First off, we'd like to thank Coach Roeder for his contributions to the program. He's continued to grow and build the program and continued to lead an extremely competitive program in the Horizon League and the region. Our student-athletes have ranked among the nation's best academically and consistently been among the best programs in the Horizon League. We certainly wish him well and he'll forever be a big part of the program," Bosso said. "We're excited to name Coach Amburgy the interim head coach. He's proven that nobody will work harder than he will. He's relentless as a recruiter and does a great job of connecting with the guys. He's going to ensure that we continue to set the standard in the classroom and in competition.

"We told the student-athletes that we'll continue business as usual. We expect them to continue to work incredibly hard to be among the best in the Horizon League. That's the goal and we're excited to see Coach Amburgy lead the way."

Amburgy was named top assistant in January 2024 and later elevated to Associate Head Coach in July 2025. Since joining the coaching ranks, Amburgy has helped the Jaguars to new school records in the 800m (indoor and outdoor), 1,500m and 4x400m relay this past season and the Horizon League title in the distance medley relay. The Jaguars also boasted the league champion in the 1,500m event and runner-up in the 800m event at the outdoor championships. Last year's cross country squad earned a Horizon League runner-up finish and a No. 13 finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

His first season on staff saw the track team set school records in the DMR, 4x400 relay and 800m event during outdoor season.

Roeder led the cross country squad to three consecutive Horizon League runner-up finishes and a program-best No. 8 finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in 2023. His squad was ranked No. 10 in the nation in team grade point average this past year. All total, he coached 31 all-league performers and saw athletes achieve 36 school records.
