Justin Amburgy was named Interim Head Coach of the IU Indy men's cross country and track and field programs in August 2025, just ahead of the start of the cross country season. He originally joined the Jaguars coaching staff in January 2024 as top assistant in both men's track and field and cross country and was elevated to Associate Head Coach in July 2025. Before coaching, Amburgy was the senior state editor for MileSplit Indiana, where he provided in-depth coverage of high school cross country and track & field across the state, establishing strong connections throughout the Indiana running community.
Amburgy competed for IU Indianapolis while earning his degree with honors from the Kelley School of Business, majoring in Management and Supply Chain Management with a focus in recruiting through Human Resource Management. As a student-athlete, he was named to the Academic Advisor’s List and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each semester he was eligible, while being a member of the program’s first three Horizon League Cross Country Championship teams.
Since returning to the program in a coaching capacity, Amburgy has contributed to several program achievements:
