INDIANAPOLIS - The IU Indy softball team will kick off conference play with a three-game series (March 13-14) at the IU Indy Softball Field. The Jags will host Purdue Fort Wayne to begin the Horizon League season. 
 
IU Indy is coming off a 3-2 weekend at the Hoosier Classic where they defeated UIC and Western Michigan.
 
Junior Tori Candler led the way for the Jags collecting nine hits and four RBI over the three day weekend. Candler's breakout day came on Sunday against Western Michigan where she went 4-for-4 with two RBI, and one run to help lead the Jags to an 8-5 win. Morgan Gilbert also had a standout weekend getting eight hits and four RBI. 
 
The Jags executed on the pitching side of things as well this weekend. Clara Phariss (2-5) earned two wins this weekend against UIC and Western Michigan. Phariss pitched 9.2 innings over two games tallying up four strikeouts and only allowing one earned run. Alexa Holman was another Jag that added a win to her record on the year. Holman pitched all seven innings in the first game against Western Michigan, recording five strikeouts and only allowing three hits in the 7-2 win. 
 
IU Indy will kick off conference play on Thursday, March 13 when they take on Purdue Fort Wayne at 3:00 PM.
 
The Jags will kick off the second day, March 14 when they face the Mastodons for a double header beginning at 1:00 PM.
