HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The IUPUI women's golf team open the spring season on Sunday (Feb. 25) with an emphatic match play victory at Mission Inn Resort, 5.5-1.5. The Jaguars won five of the seven matches and earned a draw in a sixth to capture the team win. 

The two Horizon League teams squared off at El Campeon at Mission Inn Resort, giving them a preview of one of the courses for this year's league championships. 

IUPUI was dominant in its matches as Annaliese Fox defeated Olivia Swain 4&3 and Nerea Lancho won over Brynna Mardis, 6&5. Sophomore Yanah Rolston collected a 4&3 win over Lola Barnett and freshman Nina Wojtczak cruised to a 7&6 win over Abby Blackburn. 

Sophomore Reagan Sohn also earned a win, defeated Kaylin Kline 4&3. 

Shelby Busker played Mandie Ruminski to a draw while Madeleine Pape was tripped up, 4&3. 

The trip was multi faceted for the Jaguars as head coach Jamie Broce's team headed south to get some much needed warm weather play, a first-hand look at El Campeon and a competitive atmosphere.

"It was a great opportunity getting to play the El Campeon course at Mission Inn this past weekend," Sohn said. "We will be able to take what we learned from this trip and apply it when we come back in April for our conference tournament. Flying down to Florida with the whole team was the perfect way to kick off our spring competition season with warm weather and good company." 

The Jaguars won't compete again until Mar. 11-12 when they participate in the Don Benbow Invitational in Oldsmar, Fla.
