YORKTOWN, Ind. - Sophomore
Nerea Lancho matched her career-best round with a final round 71 at the Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic on Tuesday (Sept. 20) as the Jaguars posted a team score of 303 at The Players Club. IUPUI finished tied for eighth of 12 teams with a score of 909 (304-302-303) for the week.
Lancho used her final round 71 to move into a tie for 19th among the 71-player field at 225 (76-78-71). Junior
Shelby Busker also finished at 225 (73-74-78) for the week. Lancho was steady throughout, playing much of her round at 2-under after making birdies on her second and fourth holes of the day. She gave a shot back with a bogey on her back nine before closing with seven straight pars and a 71.
"I played pretty solid today. My mental game was one of my strengths today, which helped me score a low round," Lancho said. "I focused on one shot at a time, giving myself very good opportunities to score. Overall, I felt very confident and comfortable on the course and on my game."
Junior
Annaliese Fox shot 3-over 75 and classmate
Madeleine Pape was countable at 7-over 79. Fox was at 1-under early with a pair of birdies after making bogey on her first hole of the day, ultimately getting to the finish at 75.
Freshman
Reagan Sohn closed her first collegiate tournament with a final round 82 and fellow rookie
Yanah Rolston had a final round 77 while playing as an individual. Rolston rolled out 15 pars on Tuesday, rarely finding trouble in the finale.
Loyola won the team title at 879 and Ball State's Kiah Parrott cruised to medalist honors at 9-under 207, winning by four shots. IUPUI led the field with 175 pars over two days, but was last among the field with just 23 birdies. Lancho led the field with 42 pars over 54 holes and Busker had a team-high seven birdies for the week.
"Nerea has been very solid this year. She continues to improve in the wedging and putting, which compliments her solid ball striking," head coach
Jamie Broce said. "Shelby had a great tournament going and just had a stumble at the end, but some really great golf. Annaliese played two solid rounds, which was awesome.
"We also had both freshmen playing - Yanah and Reagan. They will get some amazing experience and be more comfortable next go around. It will take a team effort from all five ladies competing from start to finish. Our goal for Butler is to start stronger and finish well."
IUPUI will return to action on Sept. 25-26 when the Jaguars compete in the Briar Ridge Invitational, hosted by UIC in Schererville, Ind.
