NORMAL, Ill. - While the team scores weren't where head coach Jamie Broce would like to see his team, the IUPUI golf team got a pair of top-10 finishes at this week's season opening Redbird Fall Invitational at Weibring Golf Club on Monday (Sept. 12). Junior Annaliese Fox finished tied for fourth among the 88-player field at 219 (73-69-77) and sophomore Nerea Lancho closed tied for eighth at 224 (73-78-73). It was Fox's fourth career top-10 finish and the second of Lancho's career.

IUPUI shot a final round 318 and finished the 54-hole tournament at 919 (295-306-318), finishing seventh of the 15 competing teams.

IUPUI was far from firing on all cylinders on Monday as Lancho led the way with a 1-over 73 and Fox carded a round of 77. Lancho made four birdies on Monday, including back-to-back efforts on hole Nos. 16 and 17 to get to 1-under at that point. Fox, who had two eagles on Sunday, had two birdies on her card on Monday to go along with nine pars.

The Jaguars were forced to take a pair of 84's towards the team scoring as Kara Blair, Shelby Busker and Madeleine Pape all finished at 12-over on the day.

Junior Ally Stuckey finished off a strong season opener with a 6-over 78 with a pair of birdies.

"I was driving the ball straighter and further than I have in the past few seasons and my short game was really critical for me in these conditions," Stuckey said. "Specifically today, I noticed my putting needed some work. I need to keep working on all aspects of my game because I'm not quite where I want to be or need to be to help out the team. I just need to keep my focus on what I know I need to work on during practice and strategizing the stronger and weaker part of my game."

"I'm really proud of the girls for fighting in some tough conditions and keeping a great attitude."

Butler edged second-place Eastern Kentucky by a single shot for the team title, closing the event at 898. Butler's Reese Wilson ended the tournament at 1-under 215 to earn medalist honors by three shots over a pair of players.

Lancho finished with a team-high nine birdies while Blair and Fox had seven apiece while Busker made a team-high 35 pars.

IUPUI will return to action this week when the Jaguars compete at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State.
