AZUSA, Calif. - The IUPUI men's track team had an incredibly successful trip to California this week, resulting in four personal bests and a new school record in the 5,000m event at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Senior Eric Hoffman spun a school record in the 5,000m event late Thursday night (Apr. 14), clocking a time of 14:19.86 in his race to shave less than a second off the four-year old mark.

"Overall it was a great trip. We all came in with some high expectations and we all were able to perform at a high level. Getting opportunities like this don't come too often, so being able to collectively capitalize in our efforts and get a school record, along with a few personal bests, made the trip that much better for the team," Hoffman said. "Last night's race definitely was tough. I was able to start out pretty conservative and moved my way up the field, little by little.

"Having my coaches and teammates cheering me along each lap gave me the confidence to keep pressing and eventually get our school record. As much as I am happy with this performance, I know there is a lot more left in me."

Earlier in the meet, Nate Kaiser clocked a personal best time of 14:24.83 to finish fourth in his heat and take 22 seconds off his previous best.

Mitchell Rans began the Jaguars' trip with an impressive 10,000m run on Wednesday night (Apr. 13), spinning a time of 30:31.52. The following morning, Nick Perkins posted a time of 30:24.86 to finish second in his race. Both nudged inside the top-six in program history in the event with their performances.

Earlier on Friday, Will Clark clocked a time of 15:29.19 in the 5K while Wilson Whicker spun a time of 15:35.66.

IUPUI will have one final tune-up before the Horizon League Championships as the Jaguars will compete at the Illinois Invitational on Apr. 23 in Champaign, Ill.
