GULF SHORES, Ala. - Sophomore
Annaliese Fox carded a round of 1-under 71 to lead the IUPUI women's golf team on day one of the Bama Beach Bash at Gulf Shores Golf Club on Sunday (Mar. 20). Fox was 3-under at the turn and made six birdies overall in Sunday's lone round. As a team, IUPUI put up a round one score of 313 and is currently tenth among the 17-team field.
The tournament format has been altered due to storms forecast later in the week as teams will now play 36 holes to compete the event on Monday (Mar. 21).Â
Fox made birdie on her first hole of the day and got to 3-under after making birdies on holes 7 and 9 and stayed steady throughout.Â
"I kept thinking 'par is your friend, par is your friend,'" Fox said. "Fairways and greens - I made it simple. I focus on pushing myself to be the best and focus more around the green when putting due to the greens."
Fifth-year senior
Amelie Svejda chimed in with a round of 5-over 77 with a pair of birdies. Freshman
Nerea Lancho posted an 81 and senior
Kara Blair rounded out the scoring group with an 84. Sophomore
Shelby Busker had a round of 85.Â
Svejda overcame a rough start as she made bogey on four of her first five holes before firing back with a pair of birdies for a 2-over 38 on the front nine. She followed with a 39 on the back, making six pars and three bogeys.Â
Texas State leads the field at 293 and host South Alabama is second at 295. Texas State's Federica Tavelli-Westerlund is atop the leaderboard at 4-under 68 and Dartmouth's Samantha Yao is second at 3-under 69. Fox is one of two players tied for third at 1-under 71. Fox was second among the field with six birdies on Sunday.Â
