BEDRICK HOMERS IN IUPUI SOFTBALL LOSS

The Jags fell to North Alabama and UAB in day two of Blazer Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The IUPUI softball team dropped two games on Saturday against North Alabama and UAB in day two of the Blazer Invite. Maicey Bedrick launched two home runs on the day.
 
In game one, IUPUI feel to North Alabama, 7-2. The Lions scored one run in the bottom of the first, second and third innings to take the early 3-0 lead. They extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run home run by Georgia Land, then added two more runs off a homer from Taylor Brown in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 
IUPUI went down swinging as Bedrick hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to cancel out the Lions shutout bid, 7-2.
 
Bedrick went 1-for-2 with two RBI while Kendal Calvert, Amber Pagan, Jaylin Calvert, Abbey Haas and Rachael Gregory all recorded hits in the first game for the Jags. Carly Metcalf took the loss of the mound giving up seven runs, two unearned on seven hits with two strikeouts.
 
The Jags faced UAB for the second time this weekend in game two. Although it was a close game, UAB came out on top, 5-3. IUPUI took the lead first with a run in the top of the first inning off a sacrifice bunt from Victoria Sivert to score Kendal Calvert. UAB answered with one run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Blazers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, Haas hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Ashley Shelton and tie the game up at 2-2 but UAB retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth frame with three runs on two hits.
 
Bedrick then launched her second home run of the day over the center field wall to put the Jags within striking distance at 5-3. The Blazers then closed the game out in the top of the seventh to hand IUPUI their second loss of the day.
 
In game two, Kendal Calvert went 2-for-3 with a triple and one run while Bedrick went 2-for-3 with a home run and a stolen base. Hailey Pop also went 2-for-3 and Jaida Speth went 1-for-3 with a double. Haas and Jaylin Calvert also recorded hits in the game. Madison Bryant took the loss giving up five runs on six hits and four walks in five innings of work.
 
The Jags close out the Blazer Invite tomorrow against North Alabama starting at 11:00 AM ET.
