BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The IUPUI softball team travels to Birmingham, Alabama for the Blazer Invite this weekend, hosted by UAB, after going 2-3 last weekend in Nashville. The Jags are 2-8 overall and look to improve their record this weekend.

Elisabeth Beirne and the IUPUI softball team started the season 0-5 at Elon then came out strong with two wins to start the Roar City Invitational in Nashville.
Madison Bryant threw a complete game shutout against Tennessee State with seven strikeouts.
Junior
Jordan Barnes leads the Jags batting .368 (7-for-19) with one RBI. Senior
Jaida Speth follows with a batting average of .333 (6-for-18) while
Kendal Calvert and
Rachael Gregory each add two RBI.
Maicey Bedrick leads the Jags with four RBI.
IUPUI will start the weekend with two games on Friday (Feb. 25). Game one starts at 11:00 am against Austin Peay. The Governors enter the weekend 7-3 after wins over Memphis and Florida Gulf Coast this past weekend. Senior Lexi Osowski leads Austin Peay batting .531 (17-for-32) with four doubles, one triple and eight RBI. Freshman Kylie Campbell follows with a .423 batting average (11-for-26) with two home runs and 11 RBI. Sophomore Mea Clark also adds two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Jordan Benefiel leads the Governors on the mound with a 1.63 ERA and 35 strikeouts in eight appearances.
Game two on Friday starts at 4:00 pm against host school, UAB. The Blazers are 4-7 with wins over Tulsa, Toledo and North Dakota. Senior Tyler Armistead leads UAB with a .364 batting average (12-for-33) and three RBI with one home run. Sophomore Lilly Crowe leads the team in RBI with seven and home runs with two. Sophomore Sarah Cespedes leads the Blazers pitching with three wins and an ERA of 2.36 and 18 strikeouts.
The Jags continue the weekend with two games on Saturday (Feb. 26) with the first at 11:00 am against North Alabama. The Lions enter the weekend 8-2 with wins over Samford, Southern Mississippi, Saint Louis, Alabama A&M, Jackson State and Alcorn State. Sophomore Emma Broadfoot leads the Lions batting .455 (15-for-33) with four doubles, one home run and 13 RBI. Harley Stokes adds eight RBI. Senior Sidney Revels posts a 1.19 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 17.2 innings of work.
IUPUI will face UAB in game two on Saturday and close out the weekend against North Alabama on Sunday (Feb. 27) at 11:00 am.
