JAGUARS TRAVEL TO THE MUSIC CITY FOR ROAR CITY INVITATIONAL

IUPUI softball heads to Nashville to face Tennessee State, Miami (OH) and Bradley

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The IUPUI softball team kicked off the season last weekend in Elon, NC where the Jags got off to a slow start. They look to redeem themselves this weekend at the Roar City Invitational hosted by Tennessee State.
 
Head coach Elisabeth Beirne and the IUPUI softball team started the season 0-5 last weekend at Elon. Jordan Barnes led the Jags, batting .364 (4-for-11) with one RBI. Jaida Speth followed with a batting average of .333 (3-for-9) while Kendal Calvert and Rachael Gregory each added two RBI during the five-game weekend. Jaylin Calvert and Ashley Shelton each recorded an RBI for the Jags.
 
IUPUI will start the weekend with one game on Friday at 2:00 pm against host school Tennessee State. The Tigers started the season 3-2 after wins over Grambling State, 1-0 and 5-0, and Alcorn State, 8-3. Senior Lauren Farias leads the Tigers in batting average with .462 (6-for-13), two doubles and three RBI. Sophomore Anayah Baker collected four RBI while freshman Jasmine Brown added two RBI. Freshman Caitlyn Manus was dominate on the mound for the Tigers with 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.
 
The Jags continue the weekend with two games on Saturday with the first at 1:00 pm against Miami (OH). The Redhawks were picked to repeat as MAC Champs in the preseason poll and will start their season this weekend. They finished the 2021 season 46-10.
 
IUPUI's second game on Saturday will be at 6:00 pm vs. Bradley. Bradley enters the weekend 1-4 after losses against Weber State, Kansas, Northern Colorado and Grand Canyon. The Braves picked up a 6-3 win over Northern Colorado. Camryn Monteer leads the Braves with a .471 batting average (8-for-17) with three runs and one double. Jordy van der Werf collected five RBI in the opening weekend for Bradley while senior Grace French struck out nine batters on the mound.
 
The Jaguars finish the weekend with two games on Sunday, the first at 1:00 pm against Miami and the second vs. Tennessee State at 3:30 pm.
