SOFTBALL TO HOST YOUNGSTOWN STATE OVER WEEKEND

IUPUI will play four games against the Penguins as Horizon League play continues.

INDIANAPOLIS – After a week off, IUPUI softball welcomes Youngstown State for a four-game set over the weekend. The Jags and Penguins will play double headers on both Friday (April) 2 and Saturday (April 3).

The first two games of the series against Youngstown State will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Greg Rakestraw on play-by-play.

IUPUI comes in to the weekend having last played a double header against Green Bay on Tuesday (March 23). IUPUI and Green Bay split the double header with the Jags winning Game 2 6-4 after losing the first game 2-3.

The Jags had its weekend series cancelled against Detroit Mercy due to COVID protocols within the Titans' program.

Jordan Barnes leads IUPUI at the plate with a .333 batting average and nine RBI. Barnes is also tops on the team with a .487 slugging percentage and .463 on base percentage. IUPUI's starting catcher is second on the team with two home runs and has walked seven time and been hit by five pitches this year.

Lauren Youngblood is second on the team with a .310 batting average and has three doubles on the year.

Morgan Gilbert holds a .294 batting average and is a perfect 10-for-10 on the base paths, leading IUPUI in stolen bases. The freshman leads IUPUI with 20 hits on the season.

Jennah Speth leads IUPUI with three home runs this season and is second on the team with eight RBI.

Maicey Bedrick leads the roster with four doubles on the season and is tied for the team lead with 10 runs scored. Bedrick hit her first home run of the season and finished with three RBI against Green Bay in the second game of the series.

Hailey Pop holds the current longest hitting streak for the Jags, collecting a hit in each of her last four games. Barnes leads IUPUI having reached base in each of her last 12 games.

In the circle, Lexi Lucas continues to lead the Jags with a 3.05 ERA and holds a 3-5 record. Jennah Speth has a 3.21 ERA and leads the jags with four wins and 46 strikeouts in 52.1 innings pitched.

ABOUT YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Youngstown State comes in to the weekend with a 14-8 record and 7-3 mark in Horizon League play. The Penguins lost their last game, 11-6 against Purdue Fort Wayne, but had won six-straight before that.

Avrey Schumacher holds a .360 batting average in 14 games played and Alex DeLeon is next on the squad with a .345 average, having played in all 22 games for the Penguins. Youngstown State has six home runs on the season with Maddi Lusk leading the way with two. In total, Youngstown State is hitting .278 as a team, while holding opponents to a .240 average.

Lusk leads the team with a 2.05 ERA is seven starts and has a 6-2 overall record. Elle Buffenbarger leads the team with eight complete games and 89 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched. Buffenbarger is tied with Lusk for six wins on the season and holds a 3.35 ERA.

ALL-TIME vs YOUNGSTOWN STATE
All-time IUPUI is 16-9 against Youngstown State but lost the last game against the Penguins 6-3. The last meeting was on March 29. 2019 and was the only game of a three-game set the two teams were able to play. IUPUI holds an 8-2 home record against Youngstown State.
