SOFTBALL TO KICK OF HOME SCHEDULE ON FRIDAY AGAINST OAKLAND

IUPUI begins Horizon League play with a four-game series against the Golden Grizzlies.

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI softball begins its Horizon League schedule with a four-game series at home against Oakland on Friday and Saturday (March 12-13). The series will feature double headers on both days.

IUPUI will allow limited fan attendance to both softball double headers. Fans can learn more about the attendance policy here. It is encouraged that fans bring their own chairs to promote distance in the seating area.

The Jags and Golden Grizzlies will open up league play with a double header on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. The two teams will then meet for a double header on Saturday starting at Noon.

ABOUT IUPUI
The Jags come in to the first week of Horizon League play with a 2-8 overall record but are coming off a 6-3 win over Bellarmine in their last game.

Freshman Morgan Gilbert leads IUPUI with a .267 batting average and a team-high eight hits. Gilbert was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI against Bellarmine.

Lauren Youngblood is second on the team with a .238 average. The freshman is tied for the team lead with three RBI and five walks.

Jennah Speth has the only two home runs on the season for IUPUI. Speth hit both home runs in IUPUI's loss to Dayton on Sunday (March 7).

IUPUI pounded out a season-high 11 hits and six runs in the win over Bellarmine. The previous high in hits on the year was six, in the season-opener against Jacksonville.

Lexi Lucas has been solid in the circle for the Jags with a team-leading 2.57 ERA in 30 innings. Lucas has started four games and holds a 1-3 record, throwing three complete games. The junior has been in control, walking only four batters in her 30 innings.

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland played in one non-conference tournament before starting league play, going 1-3 in the Purple/Gold Challenge at Lipscomb. The only win on the weekend for Oakland came in the final game of the tournament with a 4-2 in over the hosts.

Three batters are hitting at least .300 for the Golden Grizzlies, led by a .385 clip for Madison Jones. Lauren Griffith is second on the team at .308. Jones has the only home run for the team and is tied with Griffith for the team lead at three RBI.

As a team, Oakland is hitting just .202, while its pitching staff is allowing its opponents to hit .330.

Sydney Campbell holds the one win for Oakland's staff, with a 3.41 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched. Campbell has five strikeouts to two walks on the season.

ALL-TIME AGAINST OAKLAND
The Jags are 24-29 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies and lost the last matchup in a 10-9 barnburner that went nine innings. At home, IUPUI holds a 13-12 advantage over Oakland and it has been a tight series as of late with a 5-5 split in the last ten games.
