CARBONDALE, Ill. - IUPUI softball continues early season tournament play, spending the weekend at Southern Illinois. The Jags will play five games over the weekend, looking to break an eight-game losing streak.
IUPUI will play one game on Friday (March 6) to start the weekend, taking on DePaul at 5:45 p.m. ET. The Jags will then play Northern Illinois (11 a.m. ET) and Western Illinois (5:45 p.m. ET) on Saturday (March 7). The weekend closes with IUPUI playing two games on Sunday (March 8) with another game against Northern Illinois (1:15 p.m. ET) and against host Southern Illinois (5:45 p.m. ET).

ABOUT IUPUI
The Jags come in to the weekend with a 3-12 record after dropping all five games at the Hilltopper Spring Fling at Western Kentucky over the weekend. The Jags last game was an eight-inning loss to Austin Peay. IUPUI held the lead in both the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings but was not able to close out the Governors.
Jaida Speth leads the Jaguar offense with a .390 hitting percentage and is riding a five-game hitting streak and seven-game reached base streak. Speth is tied with Rachael Gregory for the team lead with nine RBI. Mandy Dallas hit a home run over the weekend, the third Jaguar to hit a home run on the season.
IUPUI has struggled on the season in the circle as the pitching staff as a combined ERA of 10.90. The Jags have allowed opposing batters to hit .389 and allowed 28 home runs in 91.2 innings pitched. Freshman Kayana Diederich holds a 2-4 record to lead the staff.
ABOUT DePAUL (DePaul leads 7-0)
DePaul is 6-9 coming in to the weekend and lost three of their five games at the Samford Tournament last weekend. All three losses for DePaul during the tournament were cut short due to the run rule.
Maranda Gutierrez leads the Blue Demons at the plate with a .325 batting average and is 6-6 on the season in stolen base attempts. Erin Andris has the most pop in the lineup with a team-high four home runs and 16 RBI.
Krista Dalgarn is the leader in the circle with a 4.19 ERA and a 4-3 record. In 38.2 innings pitched, Dalgarn has struck out 23 batters and allowed a team-low .230 opposing batting average.
ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS (Series Tied 1-1)
Northern Illinois is 5-10 on the season and dropped all five games in Memphis over their last weekend. Katie Keller holds a .392 average with a team-high 20 hits and is tied for the team lead with two home runs. The Huskies have been active on the base paths with 24 stolen bases in 29 attempts.
Amber Bumbalough leads the team with six starts and a 5.63 ERA. She is tied for the team lead with two wins and has allowed teams to hit .331 on the season.
ABOUT WESTERN ILLINOIS (Western Illinois leads 53-18)
Western Illinois is 4-10 on the year and dropped games against Memphis and Northern Alabama in their last two games.
Earlier this year, IUPUI and Western Illinois played with the Jags coming away with a 9-7 win. The Jags scored seven runs in the bottom of the six to complete a comeback and take down the Leathernecks. Speth had the best day in the lineup for the Jags going 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI.
Alyssa Ealy is tops on the team with a .349 batting average and is one of just four players in the lineup hitting above .300. Kellie Marcheschi has driven in the most runs at 15 and leads the team with two home runs.
Abby Carlin holds a 2.42 ERA in the circle with a 2-4 record. Carlin has thrown a team-high 48.1 innings and leads the team with 24 strikeouts.
ABOUT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (IUPUI leads 1-0)
The Salukis are 11-6 on the year and have won their last five games. Susie Baranski leads the team with a .408 batting average and Kyleigh Decker has five home runs and 19 RBIs to lead the lineup.
Sarah Harness leads a staff that has a combined 3.13 ERA. Harness has appeared in 13 games and holds a 2.31 ERA in 60.2 innings pitched. Harness has struck out 65 batters while issuing only 12 walks.
