INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI softball coach Elisabeth Beirne announced the 2020 schedule for the Jaguars on Monday (Jan. 6). The Jags 54-game schedule features five preseason tournaments to get IUPUI ready for conference play.
After reaching the Horizon League Tournament in each of the first two seasons in the league, IUPUI will look to make it three in a row and will test themselves in the preseason with some new foes and some old rivals.
IUPUI will begin play at the Rambler Rumble in Rosemont, Ill., and will take on former Summit League foes Omaha and Western Illinois during the five-game tournament (Feb. 7-9). In IUPUI's next tournament, at UTEP (Feb. 21-23), the Jags will take on Omaha twice as well as playing UTEP and New Mexico State for the first time in school history.
The Jags will take on Illinois State, Western Kentucky and Austin Peay in a tournament at Western Kentucky from Feb. 28-March 1 and will battle four Illinois teams (DePaul, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and Southern Illinois) from March 6-8. IUPUI's last tournament on their schedule is at UT Martin where IUPUI will play two games each against UT Martin and Siena.
"We are looking forward to an exciting 2020 spring schedule," said Beirne. "It is a competitive schedule coming from several conferences that will help us prepare for the Horizon League.
IUPUI has one home game before starting conference play, hosting Valparaiso on March 17. The Jags will then host Cleveland State in the first weekend of conference play for three games (March 20-21). IUPUI's remaining home conference schedule is against Green Bay (March 31- April 1), Detroit Mercy (April 10-11), and Northern Kentucky (May 1-2) in the last series of the season.
2020 IUPUI SOFTBALL SCHEDULE
Road series in league play include Oakland (April 3-4), UIC (April 7-8), Youngstown State (April 17-18) and Wright State (April 24-25).
IUPUI plays five other non-conference games during the season with home games against Indiana State (DH) on March 25 and Eastern Illinois on April 29. The Jags will play road games at Notre Dame (March 18) and Butler (April 21).
The Horizon League Tournament will be played at the regular season champion's home site from May 6-9.
