INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI softball will play its final three home games of the season when the Jaguars host Horizon League defending champion UIC on Tuesday (April 16) and Wednesday (April 17). The Jags and Flames will play one game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and play a double header at 2 p.m. on Wednesday to end the series.
IUPUI (14-29, 8-5 Horizon) sits in fourth place in the Horizon after taking two-of-three from Oakland in its last home series. The Jags were denied a series sweep in a back-and-forth battle that went the Golden Grizzlies way in nine innings.
In league play, IUPUI is hitting .303 as a team and is leading the league in home runs with 13. The Jags are also tied for the league-lead with 69 RBI. IUPUI has also been playing stellar defense, as IUPUI's .968 fielding percentage is the best in conference play.
Individually,
McKenzie Loge is seventh in league play with a .450 batting average and holds a .530 on base percentage. Teammate
Delaney Thompson is hitting .417 and leads the Horizon with 17 runs scored and 15 RBI.
Mandy Dallas's four home runs are the tops in conference play.
SCOUTING REPORT
UIC did not play a conference game last weekend, splitting a double-header against Western Illinois on Friday (April 13). The Flames lost their last two conference games, falling to Oakland 6-7, and 0-5 on April 6.
The Flames have three of the four best hitters in league play as Kayla Wedl is hitting .630 with three home runs and 15 RBI, slugging 1.111 in her nine games. Lexi Watts is second on the team with a .520 average and is 11-for-11 in stolen base attempts. Skylee James is fourth in the league, hitting .500 and has five doubles in nine games.
The pitching staff for the Flames holds a 3.24 ERA in 54 innings of league play. UIC is allowing opponents to hit .265 and has issued 24 walks to 30 strikeouts.
Last season, IUPUI lost all four contests against UIC, being swept in the regular season and losing a game in the Horizon League Tournament, 4-7.
All-time IUPUI is 4-9 and UIC and is on a five-game losing streak. The last win for the Jags was a 6-1 win in March of 2016.
