SOFTBALL TO PLAY MIDWEEK GAMES AT ILLINOIS AND HOME AGAINST PURDUE FORT WAYNE

The Jaguars will play their home opener against the Mastodons on Wednesday after taking on Big Ten foe Illinois on Tuesday night.

URBANA, Ill. – IUPUI will play two midweek matchups with a road game against Illinois on Tuesday (Mar. 19) before playing its home opener against Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday (Mar. 20).

The Jags (6-20) will head to Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini at 6 p.m. ET. IUPUI will then come back to play Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the IUPUI Softball Complex.

IUPUI broke a seven-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over Indiana State in the second game of a double header on Wednesday (Mar. 13). The Jags jumped out quickly with three runs in the first and scored all six runs before ISU got on the board. Kristin London led the Jags at the plate with a 2-for-3 day and a team-high three RBI. McKenzie Loge also finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Morgan Schuetter drove in her first-career RBI going 2-for-3 as well.

Amanda Melzoni (2-4) picked up her second win of the season, scattering eight hits and allowing just three runs while striking out two batters.  

For the season, Delainey Turner leads the team at the plate with a .341 average but has missed nine games this season. Jaida Speth is second on the team with a .316 average. Haley Ginger and Mandy Dallas are the leaders on the team with 14 RBI each and the lineup has been well balanced with four other Jaguars having driven in at least 10 runs. Ginger has been masterful at getting base this season, leading the team with a .437 on base percentage by drawing 15 walks this year.

In the circle, Lexi Lucas continues to lead the team with a 6.45 ERA in 14 starts. Lucas holds a4-8 record and has thrown 90.2 innings and only allowed 11 walks. The second-most innings pitched belongs to Melzoni, who has thrown 27.2 innings.

SCOUTING REPORT
Illinois
Head coach Elisabeth Beirne's squad now turns its attention to an Illinois team that is 16-5 on the season and has won two-straight games. Annie Fleming (.405) and Bella Loya (.400) are the top hitters for the Illini and Loya leads the team with eight home runs and 23 RBI. Sydney Sickels leads the pitching staff with an 11-2 record and 2.87 ERA in 68.1 innings pitched.

Purdue Fort Wayne
The Mastodons come in to the game on Wednesday with a 5-16 record and have lost eight-straight games. In their last three games, the Mastodons have been outscored 24-2, being shutout in two of the three contests. Brooke Imel has the best average at the plate at .286 on the year and Morganne Denny leads the team with two home runs and 10 RBI. Shaina Eyre holds a team-best 4.75 ERA but holds just a 1-7 record on the season.
