TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – IUPUI softball plays its first midweek action of the season with a trip to Indiana State on Wednesday (Mar. 13). The Jags and the Sycamores will play a double header with first pitch of the first game beginning at 1 p.m.
Since beating Missouri 9-8 in nine innings, IUPUI has struggled, dropping their last six games. In the last game, the Jags fell to Memphis 4-2 after leaving 10 runners on base against the Tigers. The Jags quickly got on the board with
Haley Ginger hitting her third home run of the season two batters in to the game. IUPUI gave up three runs in the bottom of the first and despite having their chances, the Jags could never get the tying run across the plate.
Ginger now leads the Jags with three home runs after hitting two in her last three games and is tied with
Mandy Dallas for the team lead with 14 RBI.
Delaney Thompson is third on the team with 10 runs driven in.
Delainey Turner continues to lead the Jags with a .341 batting average and freshman
Jaida Speth is second on the team and the only other Jag hitting over .300 with a .327 average. Dallas leads the team in hits with 21 in her 75 at bats and Ginger is holding a .413 on base percentage having drawn a team-high 14 walks.
In the circle, freshman
Lexi Lucas continues to lead the Jaguar pitching staff with a 5.95 ERA and has a 4-7 record with 13 starts and seven complete games. Lucas has shown great control allowing just 10 walks in 84.2 innings but has been bitten by the long ball, allowing 19 home runs on the year.
AGAINST INDIANA STATE
This will be the third and fourth meetings this season between the Jags and the Sycamores with both teams earning a win this season.
In the first meeting IUPUI jumped all over Indiana State with a six-run fourth inning on route to an 8-3 win. The Jags pounded out 14 hits with six different Jaguars collecting two hits. Seven Jaguars finished with RBIs with
McKenzie Loge finishing with two. Lucas picked up the win with a complete game win effort allowing just six hits and three runs over the seven-inning outing.
The second meeting went the way of the Sycamores after Indiana State scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning in a 6-3 win. The Jags held a 2-1 lead after scoring runs in the second and fourth but left nine runners on base in the loss.
