SOFTBALL TO SPEND THE WEEKEND IN LOUISVILLE

IUPUI will take on Indiana State, Missouri and Louisville at the Cardinal Classic.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Non-conference tournament play continues for IUPUI softball as the Jaguars head south on I-65 to play four games at the Cardinal Classic on Friday (March 1) and Saturday (March 2).

IUPUI will begin the weekend with a game against Indiana State, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The Jaguars will finish their first day in Louisville with a game against the Missouri Tigers at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, IUPUI kicks things off against Missouri at 12:30 p.m. and will play the host Louisville Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. The game against the Cardinals will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

In their last tournament, the Jags went 1-4 and have lost three-straight games. IUPUI's lone win at the Razorback Invitational at Arkansas came in an 11-8 win over SIU Edwardsville. The Jags jumped on SIUE early scoring five runs in the first inning and 10 runs in the first three innings. Haley Ginger led the Jags going 2-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Jaida Speth went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Mandy Dallas also finished with two hits and drove in two runs.

Pitcher Lexi Lucas picked up her third win of the season with a complete game and gave up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four and not walking a batter.

SCOUTING REPORT
Indiana State – 7-3
Indiana State is coming off of a loss to Western Kentucky in its last game and went 2-2 in the Hilltopper Classic last weekend. Bailey Martin leads the team in batting average (.486), home runs (2) and RBI (13). Gabbi Schnaiter is 3-0 on the season with a miniscule 0.81 ERA in 26 innings pitched.

Indiana State is 22-11 all-time against IUPUI and the Sycamores have won two-straight against the Jags with both meetings coming in the 2017 season.

Missouri – 9-5
Missouri won its last game 15-0 over New Mexico State but had dropped three-straight before that with losses to BYU, #2 UCLA and #5 Washington. The Tigers have hit 16 home runs as a team this season, led by five from Kim Wert, who also leads the team with 12 RBI. In 41 innings, pitcher Madi Norman holds a 5-2 record with an 0.85 ERA.

The two games the Jags play against the Tigers will be the first two meetings between the teams.

Louisville – 7-6
Louisville is coming off a 3-5 loss at Tennessee but won the first three games at the Tennessee Classic. Rebecca Chung is the leading batter for Louisville with a .400 average and is tied for the team lead with Megan Hensley with two home runs. Danielle Watson has thrown the most innings for the Cardinals with 37.1 innings pitched and holds a 3-4 record with a team-best 2.44 ERA.

IUPUI is 1-4 all-time against Louisville and have dropped their last four games, including a 7-2 loss last season.
 
QUICK NOTES
  • Catcher Sabrina Trevino and Mandy Dallas lead IUPUI with four multi-hit games. Both Jaida Speth and Delainey Turner are the only Jags to have a three-hit game this year.
  • Haley Ginger is riding a team-high six-game on-base streak.
  • IUPUI has scored 11 runs twice in a game this season. The Jaguars high last season was nine runs.
  • Offense for the Jags has been down to start the season as IUPUI is only hitting .252 as a team. Only three players (Speth, Trevino and Turner) are hitting over .300.
  • The Jags have committed 25 errors this season which has led to 21 unearned runs.
